The Senate is the Society’s main effort. It provides the grassroot, interdisciplinary forum for the Society’s leadership and membership to meet and discuss matters relating to the Society’s mandate. The Senate accumulates knowledge and fosters excellence in the fields of intelligence and security.
The Senate is an appointed and volunteer body of subject matter experts in the following areas:
- intelligence particularly competitive and criminal
- security management including expertise in access control, personal security, transportation security, and risk management
- human security in the categories of economic, environmental and political security
- human rights
- crime prevention
- transnational crime including illicit trade in weapons, humans, and drugs
- organized crime
- terrorism
- criminal justice including police, courts and corrections
- victimology
The Senate is managed by a full-time Secretariat led by the Provost, a Managing Director who sits on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee. The Provost is assisted in its duties by seven volunteer Vice Provost who chair the Standing Committees.
The Secretariat has three Steering Groups.
- Research and Development Steering Group guides the annual research programme
- Learning Steering Group organizes and runs the Society’s conferences, symposiums, and work shops
- Standards Steering Group ensures that the Forum has rigorous and responsive quality assurance and enhancement frameworks and standards
